Artist Info:
British India
From British India’s first appearance on the Melbourne live scene, critical interest has swept up over the band. The initial recording forays demonstrated the substance that lay behind the hyperbole surrounding the band’s initial public splash, with its debut EP finding its way onto Triple J’s playlist within moments of it arriving in the station’s national headquarters. In 2006 the band recorded their eagerly awaited debut album, ‘Guillotine’ produced by Harry Vanda and Glenn Goldsmith. The success of British India’s studio endeavours was immediate. The first single from the album, the incendiary ‘Black and White Radio’, was promptly afforded high rotation on Triple J, with the video to the single quickly becoming a regular highlight on Rage. ‘Guillotine’ is an album that celebrates the straight-up guitar pop that’s characterised British India’s initial success. While the refined sound and astute lyrics on the album suggests aplomb beyond the band members’ years, scratch the surface and there’s still the same youthful ferocity that propelled British India into the consciousness of the Australian music scene, this is music to which everyone can relate.

Old Man River
With his debut album ‘Good Morning’, Ohad Rein a.k.a. Old Man River is proving that the global language of commu¬nication can be found in the roots of good music. Old Man River’s blend of sunny, spirited, and melodic songs burst forth from the seams of the album with an infectious and wide¬spread appeal. Ohad’s tales of life, love, and people are a result of his journey across the world, the people that he’s met and been inspired by, and the truths he’s uncovered along the way.
If there’s one thing that bonds Old Man River’s music together, it’s surely the sun-kissed and positive vibes that emerge from the musical offerings on his album.
The proof of Old Man River’s appeal can be found in the fact ‘La’ was a massive hit in Italy over the 2007 European summer. In fact the single was indeed the soundtrack for the Italian summer, reaching #2 on the radio airplay chart, #11 on the download chart, and #18 on the singles chart. The organic and incredible success of La has ensured that Old Man River and the ‘Good Morning’ album are firmly in demand around the globe. With international release plans that include priority releases for Old Man River in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Japan and Canada, and with a second single ‘Sunshine’, already stirring further interest, it seems that Old Man River has found a way to unite music-lovers around the world.

Van She
Formed in the early part of 05, Van She are fresh on ideas, fresher than Flavor Flav, fresh like coriander, fresher than the Fresh Prince. Unashamedly taking bits and bobs from 80’s post punk, funk and synth pop, 90’s grunge, French house, film scores, 70’s Krautrock and the latest collection of innovative artists like Tom Vek and M83, Van She are that unique beast that one was beginning to believe no longer existed – a band that takes all these influences from days gone by but makes them sound unique, modern, and…. fresh. A lazy pastiche this isn’t. Van She have been playing out and about around Sydney; headlining their own shows and supporting the likes of The Presets and Wolf & Cub. They’ve also been in the studio, the fruits of which we now see in the shape of a 6 track, self titled EP.

Lost Valentinos
Forming in early 2005. Lost Valentinos immediately established themselves as one of the most exciting acts in Sydney’s Indie quarters. By the time their self-titled EP (produced by Kim Moyes of The Presets) hit store shelves later in the year, their up-and-coming reputation was solidified, with the EP's initial pressing selling out in its first week of release and publications such as Rolling Stone, Nylon and Vice UK hitting up the band for their tear-jerking tale of success. Their first single, the noirish and anthemic ‘Man With The Gun’, immediately achieved high rotation on Triple J and earned the band a featured spot on the station’s Next Crop segment. With their next EP, ‘Damn & Damn Again’, Lost Valentinos’ reputation as a gang of rogues intent on forging their own original sound has been cemented. Produced by pop svengalis Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes (Pnau) and mastered in NY by the legendary Greg Calbi (The Strokes, Sonic Youth, Blondie), Damn & Damn Again was the haunting follow-up to their successful self-titled debut. It displayed a band perfectly at ease with combining a shuddering shitstorm of rattling hi-hats and punk intensity with ambient soundscapes and noise-drenched melodies. They have supported acts as seminal and diverse as Soulwax and The Church, and have notched up appearances at Splendour in the Grass, V Festival, Homebake, Parklife, The Sydney Festival and the Falls Festival to name but a few.

Cassette Kids
Coming to fruition in early 2007 in a sensation of live performances and fermenting their talent into their June Demo, Cassette Kids lend an undertone of the young sophistocrat to the crest of new wave, summoning the likes of Bjork, The Klaxons and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs into a mixtape akin to a well dressed Berlin Wall coming down in a New York Basement. Live Cassette Kids make sexy with the hysterics, ploughing through sets with vigor and fidelity. With show stealing performances, radio time on the J's and a momentum spurred by their own desire to deliver leggy performances night after night, its enough to convince Drum Media that the C.K's were the "highlight of the evening" and prove that what probably started as cheap thrills and a passion for performance, has flourished into the hottest new talent of 2007. With a double side of supports for bands like White Rose Movement (UK), Children Collide, Van She, Riot In Belgium, Bridezilla, Muscles, Ajax and more recently, Sparkadia, Mercy Arms, Grafton Primary and Soft Tigers.

The Glass Ceiling
It has taken just 10 months for The Glass Ceiling to establish themselves as one of Sydney’s newest and most dynamic Indie rock acts, climbing out of obscurity and propelling themselves onto a National stage. Initially taking inspiration from late 90’s rock acts, the band have gained more recent comparisons to the British influences that their current song writing trends represent. This 5 piece has gained exposure on a National level with their recent success in the National Band Competition Uncharted.com.au where out of 2000 bands TGC have made the Top 2. Due to this fantastic result they are receiving extensive coverage on MTV with several live performances as well as interviews throughout late March/April this year. 2008 has proven to be huge for the band already, as in addition to this the band released their debut Single ‘Relative Need’ at Spectrum in Sydney earlier this year. TGC have frequented certain venues on the Sydney club scene and this trend continues with the band playing live on MTV at the Uncharted Grand Final at Oxford Arts Factory on April 1. If the band is successful in winning this competition they will secure a recording contract with Sony/BMG. www.myspace.com/theglassceilingsydney

Tom Novy (Germany)
Worldwide chart successes and appearances in the best clubs in the world have been part of his career as well as his activities as VJ and radio host. He released his first record ‘I House You’ in 1995 and directly entered the top 10 of the German Dance Charts. Only one year later he gained international reputation with his single ‘Superstar’, which climbed on position 15 in the Media-Control Charts in Germany and onto top positions in 18 other countries. 1998 was the year of ‘I Rock’, which became not only a chart-topper but also a real House anthem. ‘I Rock’ stayed over 10 weeks in the Media-Control Charts. His Single, ‘Pumpin’ reached #19 of the UK Charts in June 2000. In the same year, Tom Novy became the first ever, German artist to mix the ‘Ministry of Sound Annual’ Compilation. His single ‘Lovin U’ in 2004 became a worldwide success, also in South Africa, where Tom took the top 10 by storm. Back in Germany, ‘Take It’ featuring Lima became the most aired Dance tune in German radio and made it into the top 20. Tom has remixed and produced for 10CC, DJ Thomilla, Eric Morillo, Jimmy Sommerville, Joachim Deutschland, Sander Kleinenberg, Snap, Ludacris, Mousse T, Moonbootica and Sonique, to name but a few. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpyH8LmrDxo

The Potbelleez
Many would say it was destiny. Dave Goode and Jonny Sonic – both Irishman looking for a new start in the Antipodes – left their homeland in 2001/2002 respectively. Jonny left to escape the restraints of Dublin, whilst Dave responded to the call from dance luminary Pete Tong who proclaimed that the Australian dance scene was “going off”. Both were looking to make things happen for themselves, but could never have predicted the impact they’d have.
The Potbelleez are now based in Kings Cross, Sydney and have played more than 150 shows across Australia in 2007 alone. ‘Don’t Hold Back’ is their latest single and it’s causing a buzz on dancefloors around the country. The video was made by James Hackett, the two time ARIA Award winning director best known for his work with Silverchair, John Butler Trio, Missy Higgins and The Dissociatives. It was also co-written and produced by Sam Littlemore – writer and producer of tracks for Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado, Robbie Williams, The Veronicas, Pnau and Tonite Only.

Vandalism
Vandalism is the collaboration of Andy Van, Kam Denny and Cassie Van. Their first single ‘Never Say Never’ was a Massive Hit on Dancefloors and radio across Australia, remaining at the number 1 spot on the Australian ARIA Club Charts for an amazing 8 weeks. It then proceeded to number 1 on the UK Buzz charts and gained worldwide licensing deals with giants Warner UK and EMI Australia. The onslaught continued with their second single ‘Twisted’, which reached number 7 on the ARIA Club and Dance charts. Vandalism have been touring across Australia with their ‘in-yer-face’ performances featuring Andy and Kam tearing up the decks and Cassie busting out live Vandalism choons. With the increasing demand for their distinctive sound now spreading abroad, the trio have already done 2 International tours, in Europe & the UK. In between a barrage of club and festival performances and a consistent flow of top-shelf remixes, Vandalism have their next 3 releases on the way…. ‘Smash Disco’, ’Do You Really Want it’ – Vandalism vs Chicken Lips (on Azuli UK) and ‘We Are Electric’ (which is almost completed).

The Heat
Since their proverbial water breakage in August 2006, The Heat have played across Sydney and interstate delivering party sets that cross the full expanse of electronica. Electro, disco, glam, rock, house, French, German, hard, soft, your place, my place…whatever. The only rule is party! Their production sound was finally recognised with their first signing in March 2007 to Love is War records (London) with ‘The Celebration’. Their remix of Sneaky Sound System's ‘Goodbye’ was approved by Whack Records for release in August 2007 plus they have signed their follow up single, ‘Lose Control’ to Love is War Records as well as remixing Hustler and Gloss' ‘Baby Flex’ due out in Nov/Dec, on the same label. From French inspired electro to deep disco, The Heat have made their mark not only as club slut prima donnas but poorly trained producers. With a portfolio of interstate and overseas gigs (Melbourne, Newcastle, Canberra, Cairns, Auckland…) and events under their sleeves including the infamous Sydney Rooftop Party, Starf**kers, onelove, Famous, The Eastern, We Love… Sounds Festival and Luna Park NYE Harbour Party The Heat only know one thing. Party. Did we mention Party?

Carl Kennedy
In October 2003 when Pete Tong, of BBC’s Radio 1, proclaimed Carl Kennedy ‘one the world’s best undiscovered DJs,’ he clearly was able to see what vast numbers of club goers were soon to discover; that Carl was destined to become the a big name in dance music. Kennedy might be a devastating vinyl stroker in his own right, having been nominated as ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ at 2004’s Dance Star Awards in Miami, but his devastating skills don’t end when he exits a nightclub.
A man whose passion for house music is only rivalled by the hoards of clubbers who flock to catch his exquisite DJ sets, the spinner maintains a distinctive style all his own incorporating sounds across electro, tribal, soul and funk. Carl Kennedy is a man with a sixth-sense for what makes dance-floors move and possesses an uncanny ability to hit the sonic sweet spot time and time again. Indeed, it would seem that music afficionados across the globe are too, discovering his innovative style and not wanting to let go.

Goodwill
Goodwill produces several genres of original music, white label bootleg mash-ups, and many a remix under several different pseudonyms. He’s the man behind numerous Ministry of Sound compilations and fronts the labels national radio show on Nova. But he’s best known for his weekly exploits entertaining the worlds dancefloors with huge tunes and a sixth sense for mixing that causes mayhem at every turn of a dial. Goodwill routinely plays the biggest club nights in the country. The last 10 years have seen him everywhere and representing quality dance music DJing at everything from the Falls Festival, Big Day Out, Livid and Splendour to Good Vibrations, Future Music Festival, Summadayze, Mobile Home, the Jamiroquai tour support plus several international adventures. There is no doubt that Goodwill is one of a kind, but more importantly, he can effortlessly take a room full of thousands of people and unite them on a dance-floor with one mind. Let the games begin.
